The Journey

From the comfort of your seat or sleeper you’ll wonder at the ever changing landscape, as the Spirit of the Outback ventures into the very heart of the Queensland outback. On its journey west the Spirit of the Outback passes through the heritage towns of Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine before arriving in Longreach, home to the famous Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

First Class

Single Sleeping Berth

  • Each First Class Single Sleeping Berth consists of a single bed for one person, or one adult sharing with a child under four years.
  • Each cabin contains a wardrobe, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with a vanity mirror.
  • The berth has a reading light, pillow, top and bottom sheet, blanket and towel.
  • Half of the single berths face the direction of travel and the remaining face in reverse.

Twin Sleeping Berth

  • Each First Class Twin Sleeping Berth cabin consists of two bunk style beds.
  • Each bed can be sold individually to persons of the same gender, or as an entire cabin to a couple or small family group.
  • Each cabin consists a table, two wardrobes, full length mirror, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with vanity mirror.
  • The berths have a reading light, pillow, top and bottom sheet, blanket and towel.
  • All First Class twin cabins face the direction of travel.

Economy

Economy class sleeping berth:

  • Each Economy Class Sleeping Berth cabin consists of three bunk style beds.
  • Each bed can be sold individually to persons of the same gender, or as an entire cabin to a party or family group.
  • Each cabin contains a table, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with a vanity mirror.
  • A reading light, pillow, lower and top sheet, blanket and towel are also provided for each berth.
  • All Economy Class sleeping cabins face the direction of travel.

Economy Class Seating:

  • All Economy Class Seating carriages are open saloon cars with overhead luggage racks and individual reading lights.
  • The comfortable seats may be reclined to the desired position by pressing a button in the arm rest. A fold down table and foot rest is provided however pillows and blankets are not provided.
  • All Economy Class seats face the direction of travel.

  • Dining Car

    The Tuckerbox Restaurant dining car has been carefully designed for the comfort of all passengers and offers a series of very special menus each featuring a selection of fine Queensland dishes.
  • Lounge Car

    The Stockman's Bar offers the ideal place for those passengers in sleeping cars to relax, meet new friends or enjoy a drink from the bar.
  • Club Car

    The Captain Starlight Club Car has a friendly atmosphere and offers continuous service for light refreshments, drinks and confectionery except for some periods of night travel. If desired, passengers can take light refreshments to their seat or cabin. A restricted liquor service is also available in the Club Car.
  • Showers

    Are located at the end of all sleeping cars.
  • Toilets

    Are located at the end of all sleeping and sitting cars.
  • Drinking fountains

    Are located at the leading end of most cars.
  • Motorail
