This historic journey from the tropical city of Townsville to the mining centre of Mount Isa, takes you past Charters Towers and through the Great Dividing Range before delivering you into the heart of the Queensland outback. Upon arrival in Mount Isa the adventure continues with a range of attractions including prehistoric exhibits at the Riversleigh Fossil Centre and underground mine tours.

The Journey
If taking the path less travelled appeals to your adventurous side, step aboard The Inlander. The Inlander gives passengers the opportunity to explore the history and natural treasures of North Queensland’s rugged inland as the train weaves its way from tropical Townsville to the mining city of Mount Isa. Upon arrival in Mount Isa after a relaxing 20 hour journey, explore the range of tourist attractions the town has to offer including the prehistoric exhibits at the Riversleigh Fossils Interpretive Centre and tours of the underground coal mines – some of the biggest in the world.  Wonder at the rugged yet beautiful inland scenery on your journey past Charters Towers and through the Great Dividing Range. The Inlander offers both Economy and First Class Sleeping Berths, and Economy Class seating. Enjoy a range of meals and refreshments in the Club Car as you journey into the heart of the Queensland Outback.

The Inlander Accomodation
First Class

Single Sleeping Berth

  • Each First Class Single Sleeping Berth consists of a single bed for one person, or one adult sharing with a child under four years.
  • Each cabin contains a wardrobe, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with a vanity mirror.
  • The berth has a reading light, pillow, top and bottom sheet, blanket and towel.
  • Half of the single berths face the direction of travel and the remaining face in reverse.

Twin Sleeping Berth

  • Each First Class Twin Sleeping Berth cabin consists of two bunk style beds.
  • Each bed can be sold individually to persons of the same gender, or as an entire cabin to a couple or small family group.
  • Each cabin consists a table, two wardrobes, full length mirror, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with vanity mirror.
  • The berths have a reading light, pillow, top and bottom sheet, blanket and towel.
  • All First Class twin cabins face the direction of travel.

Economy

Economy class sleeping berth:

  • Each Economy Class Sleeping Berth cabin consists of three bunk style beds.
  • Each bed can be sold individually to persons of the same gender, or as an entire cabin to a party or family group.
  • Each cabin contains a table, power point (240 volt AC) and a washbasin with a vanity mirror.
  • A reading light, pillow, lower and top sheet, blanket and towel are also provided for each berth.
  • All Economy Class sleeping cabins face the direction of travel.

Economy Class Seating: (non Tilt-Train Services)

  • All Economy Class Seating carriages are open saloon cars with overhead luggage racks and individual reading lights.
  • The comfortable seats may be reclined to the desired position by pressing a button in the arm rest. A fold down table and foot rest is provided however pillows and blankets are not provided.
  • All Economy Class seats face the direction of travel.

  • Buffet Car

    A range of meals and light refreshments including hot and cold takeaway snacks, drinks and confectionery are available from the Buffet Dining Car, providing a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A limited liquor service is also available for consumption in the Buffet Car.
  • Showers

    The Inlander provides showers at the end of all sleeping cars.
  • Toilets

    Are provided at the end of all sleeping and sitting cars in all Traveltrain services.
  • Drinking Fountains

    Drinking fountains provided at the leading end of most cars.
